Asking For Some Help Here

>1,798 posts, 636 comments.

OK, rather than a motorcycle-related post here I’m doing a blog-related post. Specifically something I have long tried to figure out about this blog.

Why does almost no one ever comment? If you look at that screen shot of my blog dashboard you’ll see that there have been 1,780 posts which garnered only 698 comments. I look at other people’s blogs and they’ll have multiple comments on every post. I just don’t get it.

For one, I’m wondering if I have this thing set up in a way that makes commenting difficult or even impossible for people at times? Something I could fix. Could I move the comment button somewhere more convenient?

Or is what I write so complete that no one has anything to add? Or so boring that no one cares? Or is it something else I have no idea about?

I know, for instance, that up at the top right, below the photo of me on the Honda, it reads “Entries (RSS) and Comments (RSS).” And I know that is not functional; I need to remove it. Is that it? Do people click on that Comments link and get nowhere? The Comments link that does work is at the bottom of each post. You read the post, you get to the end, you want to offer a reply, and you click the link there. Is that not clear enough?

This has frustrated me for a long time. Anything anyone can do to help me out here will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I enjoy your blog immensely, and look forward to the new postings. I have replied several times over the years and it was always easy. Most of the time,I have nothing worthwhile to add, in my opinion. I do envy your multitudes of roads to explore. Please keep up your good writing.

My experience is most visitors can not be bothered to fill out the form to leave a comment but also Blogs have an audience limited to a few older people who generally do not comment as much as younger people.

Most people are not interested in reading and prefer to watch video. Young people interact to the internet via apps and never visit web pages. I had to explain to a 20 year old recently my blog was not on TikToK or YouTube and she needed to type my URL into her phones web browser. She asked me what is that and honestly did not know how to.

Thanks Clif, yeah, I know you have commented. I guess it doesn’t really matter if people comment because I’m not making any money off this site or blog and often the search engines factor in comments when they look at how popular a site is. So I’m not digging for hits. But it has always puzzled me.

Funny. I do see that more and more of my traffic is from phones. Maybe I should look at the blog on my phone and see if that shows me something that might be a factor. Anyway, thanks for writing. It’s always nice to hear from readers. I only assume I have readers except when I actually hear from someone. But I’ve heard from enough over the years that I know they are out there. I’ve even met a few.

    Hello,

I read your articles from the RSS feed (in Feedly). I did not subscribe to the comment feed.
Don’t take it out! I will not be able to read your articles in the future

    Salutations!

  6. Ken Says:

Wow. OK. I had no idea. I guess I just don’t understand how that feed works. Thanks for the info.

I stumbled across your blog probably about 2 years ago now. I’ve read through a lot, but still have a lot I haven’t. …but am working my way through stuff slowly.
I think your blog is fantastic and I can’t believe you wouldn’t have a much larger audience if people only knew about it. I think your writing style is excellent – articles are not too long, interesting, not preachy or biased, and simply an enjoyable read. Like a good cup of coffee, I like pausing to enjoy it.
As Warren eluded to, I think your audience is probably older. I was just reading an article somewhere in RevZilla’s Common Tread section about the death of forums on the internet. People don’t go that route anymore which is a shame. I don’t have Facebook, tik-tok, etc (I’m probably one of the older folks I mentioned. Or getting there.) If a larger fan base is what you’d like, I think you’d have to target younger people and the latest technology feeds, whatever they are.
FYI, I live in Pennsylvania but have visited your beautiful state and would love to end up out there some day. Maybe that’s what appeals to me too, the beauty of CO. My bikes, type of riding, and general mind set seem to be similar to yours as well which is probably also why I like your blog. Also as mentioned previously, I’m one of the people who simply read your stuff but don’t bother commenting. But I never do, this is the most I’ve ever done. (Which says A LOT). I think I’ve ever written only two reviews in my life too (my riding pants and my hiking boots).
All this to say keep it up. Please.
Oh, and I like your biker quotes of the day, too!

Thanks Bruce, that’s one of the nicest things anyone has ever said about this blog. I’m curious where you live in PA. My wife and I are going to be out there in a couple weeks, in the western part of the state.
