Passes and Canyons Sets New Record

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Please excuse the self-indulgence but I’m really pleased and want to share this. Cue the fireworks.

I'm celebrating!

I just want to announce that this month, March 2008, is the first time in its history that this Passes and Canyons, Motorcycle Touring in Colorado website has exceeded 3,000 unique visitors in the space of one month.

Now, that’s not a big deal for a lot of sites. Heck, if Google got only 3,000 visitors in one second they’d probably be checking their systems to see what was wrong. But I’m not Google. I put this site up about two and one-half years ago and I’ve been pleased to watch its growth. Traffic generally trends upward from January through July and then trends downward from August through December. Then the cycle starts all over again.

What that means is that this is only the beginning. Although it has already — thanks to you, by the way — set a new record this month, the trend suggests it will continue to set a new record each month for the next three or four months.

The bottom line here is very simple: I’ve put an enormous amount of work into this site and it just makes me feel good to see that that effort is appreciated. Thanks to all of you for making this possible.

Damn Those Blog Spammers

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

This posting is not about motorcycles. It is about the assholes who send tons of spam comments to blogs like this one. It started out small, just an occasional one, but then it grew. For a couple weeks I was getting about 5 per week. Then it was more like 5 per day. Then it hit about 100 per day.

At that point I had no choice. I turned off your ability to post comments to this blog. Now the spammers can’t post here but neither can you. I am truly sorry for this. If you ever find out someone you know is doing this stuff, do us all a favor–shoot the motherfucker.

In the meantime, I still welcome any comments you have. Just send them to me at ken at motorcyclecolorado.com. Thanks.

I Can’t Believe You Found Me Here

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

Out of curiousity I just spent the last 45 minutes searching around on Technorati to see what motorcycle blogs I could find. Gradually I narrowed my search down to the key words “motorcycle touring Colorado,” because that is what this site is all about. What I found is amazing, and distressing as well. In the first 10 pages of results, 100 results, I found five actual blog posts and all the rest were blogspam. And of those five, three were finally found on the 10th page.

Which leads me to the question, how in the world did you find me here? Seriously, if you’re reading this I would very much appreciate your replying and answering that question for me. With 95 percent of “blog” posting that show up on Technorati being spam, it makes searching in the blogosphere nearly useless.

Passes and Canyons Enters the Blogosphere

Saturday, April 8th, 2006

Step by step this thing progresses. I launched the website Passes and Canyons, Motorcycle Touring in Colorado in November of 2005 at www.motorcyclecolorado.com. Now I’m expanding it to the blogosphere.

I’ve been extremely pleased with the reception this website has gotten since it went live. You may not know it but a webmaster can look to see not only how many people are coming to the site and what pages they visit while there, they can also look to see where you came from. It really makes my day when I follow a visitor back to the link they followed and find that someone has said something along the lines of “Check out this website. It’s great!” And I’ve had that pleasure a number of times. Thank you. A very sincere thank you.

There is still a lot to be done. I need to get out all over the state this summer shooting pictures, gathering campground information, adding more dealers and repair shops . . . and the list goes on. You can help. If you had a good experience — or a bad one — at a motel, let me know. Your experience can help someone else. If you’ve had a good ride and want to tell everyone about it, this is the place. Pictures are welcome.

Thanks for visiting. Come again. Tell your friends. And ride, ride, ride.
