Poudre Canyon and Cameron PassFrom Fort Collins up to Walden, in the area known as North Park, Colorado 14 climbs through Poudre Canyon and then crosses Cameron Pass, descending into North Park through the Colorado National Forest. From Walden you can go southwest and meet up with US 40 at Muddy Gap Pass, which gives you access to Steamboat Springs to the west over Rabbit Ears Pass or Kremmling to the east. Alternatively, you could continue north on Colorado 125 into Wyoming or head south on Colorado 125 to Granby. There are numerous campgrounds going up the Poudre, along with a good many motels and resorts. On the west side of Cameron Pass there is one more campground. Running from east to west, the campgrounds include Ansel Watrous, Stove Prairie Landing, Narrows and Lower Narrows, Dutch George, Mountain Park, Kelly Flats, Big Bend, Sleeping Elephant, Big South, Aspen Glen, Chambers Lake, and Aspen. This first sequence of photos is going eastward from Walden, over Cameron Pass: Click on thumbnail for larger image; arrow through photos; click on large image to close. Now we’ll head on down the canyon, continuing eastward: Down toward the mouth of the canyon you may want to stop at one of the favorite watering holes for locals as well as the folks in Fort Collins, the Mishawaka. With its deck suspended over the river and an outdoor stage, the Mishawaka hosts live music and is a hopping place on weekends. It is also extremely biker-friendly: |
