Motorcycle Colorado | Passes and Canyons : Skyline Drive
Skyline Drive
Unlike most of the roads spotlighted on this website, Skyline Drive is not a long stretch. In fact, I’m pretty sure it’s not even one mile. But it is
quite an impressive portion of a mile.
Located in Canon City, you get to Skyline Drive off US 50 as you take that highway west out of town. It’s a one-lane,
one-way road so don’t try going the other way. What it does is go up and cruise
along the hogback overlooking the town. And it is spectacular. You could probably
ride the thing in less than five minutes but trust me, you won’t. And there are
plenty of spots to pull off and park.
Here are some shots to give you a taste of it. This first one is looking back the way we came, with US 50 down below.
The second one is looking in the other direction, where we’re headed.

This is another shot looking back the way we’ve come, from a little further on. Then
we're once again looking ahead. Then a shot that gives you a feel for the fact
that you’re riding on the top of the hogback:
Now here are a few more recent shots from when I was there in July 2008 with the OFMC,
including some views of the city from up on top. Those dirt hills at the bottom
of your view is a dirt-bike riding area that stretches the length of the hogback:
Finally, here's a video from a HOG ride over this road.
