Motorcycle Camping on Rabbit Ears Pass
US 40 runs over Rabbit Ears Pass between Steamboat Springs and Kremmling. Two motorcycle-accessible
campgrounds are open on top of Rabbit Ears Pass, in the saddle between the east
and west summits; a third is closed for now. To the west is Meadows Campground
and to the east is Dumont Lake Campground. Neither of these campgrounds has had a price increase in a long time, so they are very inexpensive.
Meadows Campground
Rabbit
Ears Pass, along US 40 east of Steamboat Springs, has both an east and west summit.
In the saddle in between the two summits, toward the west, is Meadows Campground.
You'll need to go in about one-quarter mile on a good gravel road. The
30 sites offer tables, fire pits, toilets, water, and trash receptacles. The road
through the campground itself is a good gravel road, just fine for motorcycles.
Camping is $10 per day.
Dumont Lake Campground
Right
at the East Summit to Rabbit Ears Pass, along US 40 east of Steamboat Springs,
a good paved road runs a mile north and east to Dumont Lake Campground.
The 22 sites offer tables, fire pits, toilets, water, and trash receptacles. The road
through the campground itself is a good gravel road, and so is easily accessible
on a motorcycle.
Camping is $12 per day. Campsite No. 22 is especially nice.
