ABATE of Colorado Last Brass Monkey Run 2008
Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008 was a great day for a motorcycle ride and more than 600 bikers, by my rough estimate,
joined in on the Last Brass Monkey Run and made their way to the Grizzly Rose.
The Last Brass Monkey Run is put on each year by ABATE of Colorado as a fundraiser.
It usually is scheduled for Dec. 31 but was moved to Dec. 28 this year. Presumably
they figured they'd get more riders on a Sunday than on a Wednesday.
The ride started out in three locations, far east Colfax, far west Colfax, and Colorado
Springs. At the destination, there was food, a band, and various events, such
as a chili eating contest and a chili cook-off.
Although ABATE members are predominantly Harley riders, there was a scattering of all sorts of bikes in the
parking lot. I was on my old Honda, and saw another not quite so old Honda. There
were several Gold Wings, too. Other makes included Suzukis, Yamahas, Kawasakis,
and even a Can-Am Spyder.
In addition, a number of large, very flashy trikes showed up and parked right up front where they would be most visible.
Here are a few photos from the event:
